This program is currently running with the assistance of the Edmonton Food Bank. Ever since our Red Cross Emergency COVID Response Grant completed, we have been looking for another way to fund a food hamper program.
We knew that people still had food security concerns and our Executive Director, Bedri continue to work to find and maintain contacts with other food agencies for this purpose. Edmonton Food Bank was one of those contacts that was able to partner with us. Starting in July, we were able to receive dry food from the Edmonton Food Bank to offer to people in need from our previous programs, the Red Cross and the United Way. This service is freely provided by volunteers to anyone who need it.
So far to July 13, we have been able to help 187 people or 36 families with dry food. Rice, pasta, flour, oil and beans or chickpeas were what the Edmonton Food Bank had to give us for distribution.
The average size of the families we are serving is 6 people, but everyone is struggling to find food for their tables.
We hope to be able to continue this food hamper program until the issue of food security has been resolved for those in the program. If you know of anyone who may be in need of this program, please call our office for more details on how to register.
