A Child’s Journey

Imagine being caught between two worlds. At home, you speak your mother tongue and follow your family’s traditions. At school, everything is different: the language, the culture, the expectations. Inside, you carry both worlds, trying to honor your family while fitting in with your peers, struggling to understand where you belong.

A Parent’s Journey

You’ve finally reached safety with your family, but the challenges have just begun. You need to provide, but the language is unfamiliar, the systems are confusing, and your credentials aren’t recognized. Meanwhile, your children are changing: speaking English faster than you, questioning traditions, wanting “Canadian food.” How do you keep your family together while building a new home?

These families don’t have to navigate this journey alone. FOCAS Canada provides the bridge.

How FOCAS Canada Makes a Difference

Youth-Focused Services: We help children navigate their three worlds through tutoring, mentorship, family relationship building, and cultural connection programs—transforming struggling students into confident achievers.

Newcomer & Refugee Support: From sponsorship (675+ refugees supported, 311+ arrived) to emergency food support (420+ families), mental health services, and application assistance—we provide comprehensive support when families need it most.

Employment Services: We build pathways to economic independence through job placement, English and computer literacy training, and entrepreneurship support—helping qualified professionals succeed in Canadian workplaces.

When families successfully integrate while maintaining their cultural heritage, the entire Edmonton community benefits.

Employed parents contribute to our economy, fill critical labor shortages, and model resilience. Children who excel in school pursue higher education and professional careers. Families strengthen our multicultural fabric, creating vibrant neighborhoods and authentic cultural exchange.
